WRIT 2000: THEORIES OF WRITING

Theory of Writing Essay

For this essay I was given a quarter to come up with my own theory of writing. After reading papers by writers like Michel Foucault and Walter J. Ong, I came to my own theory that places writing as a type of fashion, going in and out of fads like we might see the use of scrunchies and high-waisted jeans. Much like fashion, visual aesthetics take a big toll on writing and specifically I look at how poetry through the times has gone in and out of fashion through use of oral performance and the use of newer technologies.

This essay helped me view my own writing in a different light so that now I can recognize my own fashions I lean towards and where I have shifted in and out of fads or styles.
